Yeah, it was one of the biggest increases ever reported in sports science, apparently, and the real shocker that made Tabata protocol so popular.
I got the number from the Guerilla Cardio text, I'm sure you can find it if you google for it. It's a bit non-scientific, but it cites real studies done by Tabata and others.

i'd be comfortable just doing that in itself for conditioning, but if my brother wants to buy that tent i'm damn sure going to use it...
|
Fair enough. I'd be doing the same.

oh shit...
forgot to mention this interesting factoid:
the dog has more energy now that he's sleeping in the tent with my brother. no shit, that dog plays like never before now. he's a 2 year old boxer, and has the energy to play ALL FUCKIN' DAY!
i swear that dog can jump so high that his rear hips are level with my shoulders and i'm just over 5'11"...

LOL, there is no way my wife would let the dog in the house to sleep, so having the dog in the tent would not be an option either.

Very interesting results, Polynikes. It definitely sounds like something to use if you're looking to get to a really advanced level of conditioning for endurance and anarobic sports alike.

Interesting, would it matter what type of exercise is used with the tabata protocol? Would tabata squats yield similar results in VO2 max as compared to tabata sprints/cycling?

Polynikes, no not even "that beast"...LOL
Sonny, I have no scientific evidence to back up this comment but I doubt that the squats would yield the same effects as sprints. The two hardest Tabata variations that I have done are Hill sprints and sprints, I've tried squats, push ups, burpees, rowing machine, and a stationary bike, but none of those leave me as exhausted as sprints/hill sprints.

i did 5 minutes of nonstop bodyweight squats wearing that hypoxic mask and it fucked me up pretty badly...
my ass felt rock hard for like 3 days!
it hurt so bad...
i'll tell you this: my 54 year old uncle ran 3 miles in strength shoes carrying some dumb-bells and he couldn't go to work for a couple of days! hahahaha!
he got the shoes, put them on, then took off. no slow build up, no prior training for it, he just put them on and did 3 miles...
he mixed it up though with running backwards, karioke, things like that...
he felt fine until about 2 hours after he got back and he said that his calves began to slowly get tighter and tighter...
his legs were swollen like crazy! you should have seen them...

That's funny. Reminds me of the first time I did tabata squats, my legs hurt so much I almost passed out and as time went on they seemed to get tighter and more painful.
