my hiit workouts

I strength train three days a week and tag an hour of LSD at the end of each session. I think my LSD base is good enough now for me to start doing more HIIT training on the other days, although I have done a little along the way e.g. heavy bag.

Here is what I just did:

Skipping: 2 mins warmup, then 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off for 7 minutes as fast as possible
Burpies (no pressup included): 3 sets of 10 with 15-30 seconds rest as fast as possible
Vertical jumps: 10

Yesterday I did 40 burpies with a pressup in each rep after my weightlifting, but I won't be doing that from now on (just LSD and heavybag). Yesterday was also a bench day so that's why I didn't include pressups in the burpies today.

I have access to a track so I'm going to do some sprints/suicides in a couple of days time. But what do you think about the programming above? Should I do skipping for 1 minute on and 30 seconds off, either slower or with less sets, or is it fine how it is? Should I take more rest between the burpies? Should I do sets of 5 burpies for now instead of 10?? What is the optimal way to develop explosive power given that I'm already strength training? Thanks for any input.

I think you should get yourself a heart rate monitor and use it to dictate your work/rest periods rather than using random time or rep schemes.

Yeah I agree with that. Ideally I want to rest between sets until my HR gets down to 130. Judging by my breathing I was down to about 130 before starting the burpies, and then down to 130 again before the vertical jumps

I use a HR monitor as well. I like to see how high I can get my HR for a certain amount of time.
