Mono

I got diagnosed with Mono (Epstein Barr) virus after a blood test last week when i initially thought i had a strep infection. I was wondering if any of you guys have had this, and if you had did you have it when you trained and how long did it take you to get back? The doctor told me anywhere from weeks to months on having normal everyday good energy and at least several months on the types of high intensity exercise i was doing before.
I've pretty much felt anywhere from just tired to being in misery (not being able to swallow, fever, aching).
Little background i hadn't been fight training recently although i still spar from time to time. i was doing pretty high intensity crossfit and ****-con workouts, was planning on competing in a crossfit games qualifier in may (probably not gonna happen now!) I work full time as a trainer at a warehouse house gym near Columbus Ohio. Best job ever but having mono makes it basically impossible to do.

Sorry For babbling my question is from an athletes perspective what have been your experiences if you have had this and what if any advice can you give?

Dont Bring Mono To the GYM! no one want to catch that. Don't Sparr, you are at risk of rupturing your spleen.

Just Be Careful Please!

Yeah dude, Mono is basicaly AIDS only it goes away after about 2-4 months. You're white blood cell is so low that if you get anywhere near the slightest virus you're gettin it. I had it abou 6 years ago and I was bedridden for about 2 months. I got Stomach flu, major fever, violent dirarea, and strep throat in the course of about a week. Worst time of my life.

yeah it really sucks when your 26 and single trying to make a living and cant get out of bed. Everyone i knew who's had it weren't really athletes at the time they had it, were in high school or college and just took time off school and had thier moms feed them soup for a month.

Yeah I got lucky and it happened to me while I was in school, I can't imagine what it's like in the real world. Anyway you can work from home?

Be prepared to lose a lot of weight. My girlfriend lost about 40 pounds, she was looking anorexic. So, even though you probably won't want to you should try and eat a lot.

my appietite is still good and i can still eat as much as i want. its tough on my throat but that about it. The hardest thing is the set back. The problem is you cant attack your workouts or try and work overtime to make money back when you feel better or you'll get sick again.
I'm just venting because im frustrated with the situation! Thanks for the support.

I was out of commission for a month when I had mono. I lost 20 lbs, too.

Rest, recover, take it easy.

Be prepared to eat like a mad man when you finally feel better again.
