How much would you pay for personal training?

I wonder how much I can charge people for martial arts and weightlifting lessons once I pass my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam in 6 months. Right now, I tell people at the 2 health clubs I work at to pay me 50 dollars per hour, after they are done with their contracts. (They get charged anywhere from 30-60 for just a half hour, so my 50 for an hour always sounds good to them.)

But I'm just small fry right now, working for a really crappy LA Fitness and Gold's Gym near my house. Once I get my CSCS certificate, that puts me way ahead of the game. I want to charge people 400 dollars an hour! Lol, but seriously, the cert is supposed to be the best in the country.

I wouldn't pay anything, but that's just me. I think people who go to personal trainers are suckers unless they are highly competitive athletes competing at a national or international level.

But you've got thousands of people out there who just want to "look good naked" and there are literally zillions of women who want to get rid of that tricep arm jiggle. I'd say you have to gauge it by area and gym really. Obviously if you manage to work out of a gym in a snazzier part of town, you can charge more.

I'd say charge as much as your conscience allows you to sleep at night. Best of luck in your endeavors.

Having someone who can develop proper technique when you're a beginner can be very helpful. From what I have seen there are some good trainers and some bad trainers, and there are also a bunch of guys who think they know what they're doing who look like complete idiots in the gym.

p.s. TS, what MA credentials would you have besides a CSCS cert. if you're going to advertise martial arts lessons?
