Massages before an endurance activity?

I'm training for a half-marathon (not a race, just to do it). I want to get massage therapy (a real massage, not a crappy oil rubdown), but what's the best time do it before the run? The day of? The day before? A week before? Thanks.

Just something I heard from a runner, don't do it the day of the race or else your muscles will get fatigued quick.

I've always wondered how helpful a massage would be I know a lot of fighters get them but I don't really know anything about them, but found a website that does.

Massage Therapy, Sports Massage, Massage, Therapeutic Massage

Event Massage
Pre-event. Pre-event sports massage is given within the four hours preceding an event to improve performance and help decrease injuries. It is used as a supplement to an athlete's warm-up to enhance circulation and reduce excess muscle and mental tension prior to competition. It is normally shorter (10-15 minutes) than a regular conditioning massage, and focuses on warming-up the major muscles to be used, and getting the athlete in a good mental state for competition. It also improves tissue pliability, readying the athlete for top performance. Certain massage techniques can help calm a nervous athlete, and others can be stimulating. Pre-event. Have you heard of the use of foam rollers for myofasgial (spelling?) release? I use foam rollers for that now after training and you notice a big difference in soreness the next day. You should give that a try too. I have noticed results.

A good deep tissue massage 6 days before should do you good, just make sure to drink a shit load of liquids after to flush out the toxins released from your muscles
