Wrong forum.

I'd imagine the army makes you do a lot of running and bodyweight excercises.

While you are in the wrong place, I'll give you some advice if you are looking to prepare:

http://www.http://www.navyseals.com/...e/warning.html

This was primarily developed as a beginner workout for BUD/S (the Navy SEAL's selection couse), but you will slaughter USMC bootcamp if you complete it.

There are several of us here that can help you since it sounds like you are being very sincere. Feel free to PM me with any questions. One thing I will never do is BS.

For starters, common sense dictates. Eat right, get lots of sleep, and take care of your body. Read a lot in this forum about nutrition, stretching, exercise, etc. There are lots of other good sites out there also.

Okay, start running. Don't think about it, just run. Distance, distance, distance, and lots of sprints. Running stairs is good too. I ran a minimum 5k 3x/week in the sand, ran pier sprints barefoot (don't do that), and ran stairs at the beach. I owned in boot camp. They will no shit run your dick into the dirt until you vomit. Running 3 miles is easy you will hear people say. Try doing it with no sleep, no food, and after being trashed to shit. It gets hard, trust me. Or even worse, doing it after a belly full of chow. Look into any local running clubs and listen to what they say. They are normally cheap and meet several times per week and they know their shit. Ask questions.

Bodyweight exercises. Sit-ups, crunches, pull-ups, and push-ups. For your Marine Corps PFT you will run 3 miles for time, do max crunches in 2 minutes, and perform max pull-ups (dead hangs, either grip). Ask your recruiter though, this was a few years ago for me. You should be aiming for 18:00 run, 100 crunches, and 20 pull-ups. I am not saying everybody will do this (not even close), but aim for it. That is your bread and butter. You will be fucked with less if you bust your ass. The problem most people have is the pull-ups and rope climb, work on that more if you need help.

Have a good attitude. Shit sucks. It sucks worse if you cannot find fun in bad things.

If you already know that you are going after high school you should already be in the delayed entry program (DEP)- either way ask your recruiter.

If you want to get a quick promotion right out of Bootcamp then listen to Brandinho's advise; if you don't care - it's not as tough as we make it out to be (at least it wasn't in 95'-99').

Threadstarter. Yes and yes to the above.

But keep this in mind, no it isn't tough, if you are prepared. There were lots of people who had a tough time. We lost 20 out of 63, I am sure they didn't do shit before boot.

^ Right again. I guess I was looking at it from a personal view point. When I left for Parris Island I had been boxing/kickboxing, wrestling, and training in the TMAs for years. We too lost about 1/4 or maybe even 1/3 of our platoon before graduation.

20 out of 63 at USMC boot? Wow, when did you go to boot? The publicized washout rate is about 11%. USMC boot camp is tough, but if you are physically prepared, it should be a breeze (it'll get tougher in your unit though). He should be able to ace the USMC PFT before he goes in...if he does that, then he should be good to go.

If you are really nervous about going, then put out harder in your training now. And you should definitely go into DEP if you are positive you are going after HS. I'm definitely plan on doing that before I join the Navy under the SEAL Challenge contract (I'm 16 now, plan on joining after college).

You should only make comments on things within your knowledge. If you are 16 and have never been in a unit then it doesn't make you qualified to tell another poster what it is like. You should keep comments like that to yourself, i.e. listen and read instead of talk. It pisses us off and gives others bad scoop. Not trying to be a dick, but telling you like it is now instead of you learning the hard way. The best way to succeed in training is keep your mouth shut, listen, and bust your ass.

???

I see you take me as your typical uneducated, "too much PS2", 16 year old. Whatever. No, I've never been in a unit myself, but I know several Marines who have been and are (heck, my MMA instructor and Asst. instructor are former Marines with infantry MOS), read countless books on the subject of military selection courses (from USMC boot to BUD/S to CAG selection), belong to several military websites, and don't play PS2 ().

I never said what it is like, I said that if you are physically prepared it shouldn't be that tough. USMC bootcamp is not SOF selection, it's not a ball-busting gut wrenching mental experience, it's designed to test you and weed out the idiots, but if you are physically prepared, put out hard, and want to be there, then you'll almost certainly make it (although I know guys who were in very good shape but were just plain idiots and they basically quit). AIT and your small unit will be tougher, how can you disagree with that, considering you've been there? By the way, I have never talked about the subject on this site ever...I'm not a big talker (I've done my fair share of reading and listening from guys who are much more knowledgable than you). The USMC PFT is baby stuff, I was able to ace it when I was 15 and specifically prepping for BUD/S (can't now though as I train primarily for MMA).

I've wanted to be a SEAL since I was 6 (and not for any of the hollywood bs), train hard for it, know just about everything open source about BUD/S (without having been there) and the Teams, and belong to a BUD/S preperation website. Don't think I'm an idiot because I haven't been there and done that yet, being disrespectful and rude to me for giving sound advice is ridiculous and equivalant to being a complete smart-a**. Lose the arrogant, "Your an idiot" attitude please.

To the OP: If you want to get in shape, follow a plan. The BUD/S warning order has worked for countless guys who have gone and passed through BUD/S, I can almost gaurantee it will work for you. It was designed by Stew Smith, who is very highly respected (He's prepped numerous guys for military training...he's a former SEAL and knows his sh*t). Also, check out crossfit.com and learn how to utilize their WOD's with bodyweight exercises and running. Check out some Traithlon programs. Research, research, research. I also recommend www.thesealquest.com (the BUD/S prep website I belong to)...there workouts are designed for BUD/S, but will definitely help you get through USMC boot...and the community is extremely helpful and motivating. Read books on mental toughness (I'm currently reading "Unbeatable" by Jack Schrop). Read books on military strategy (Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" is a great starter and a classic, and I also like "Attacks" by Erwin Rommel). Read everything you can. Knowledge is power.
