Making weight

Hey guys, I have a grappling tournament on saturday. I am trying to be in the 170 lb division and right now I'm 174. Weigh-ins are the day of the tournament, so would you guys recommend something like sitting in my car with the heat on and some sweats to lose the water weight, then filling up on some food and water after I weigh in? Also, should I not bother lifting this week just so I don't gain any muscle weight? Or could I be safe doing 15-20 reps?

EDIT: I'm also planning on running everyday up until thursday to maintain my conditioning, would you guys recommend this? I also have shin splints, they come and go, so should I take this week off from running to let my shins heal at the cost of conditioning or stick it out and see how well they do from thursday-saturday?

4 pounds is nothing, especially since you're a week out. I wouldn't worry about lifting. Just focus on technique (drill, drill, drill) and keep weighing yourself everyday around the same time you'll be weighing in. Don't eat the night before and if you NEED to, eat an ice cube to keep your mouth from drying out. Weigh yourself EARLY the morning of, and preferrably on the scale the official weigh-in will be on. If you're over, put on a couple layers of clothes and skip rope/run sprints/grapple to get a good sweat going. Then, take off the clothes and scrape the sweat off with a credit card. With a week to prepare, you don't need to worry too much. Just watch your intake. I used to weigh my food during wrestling season so I knew exactly how much I was eating. Food scales are cheap...if you're that hardcore about it.

After the weigh-ins, get some carbs and some fluids quick, so your stomach will be settled before you step on the mat.

Good Luck, let us know how you do.

I also think it's possible to gain a pound of lean mass in a week, but you gotta be 100% into it. Also the human max I read in a BB mag was 2lb/week? Of couse don't quote _me_ on that, it is something I took from a mag. Of course if you took juice, you would probably gain more.

Alright thanks a lot guys. I've definitely been watching my food intake, and I'm gonna eat like a salad with chicken or something around 4 30 the day before, then not eat til weigh-ins.

Don't bother with lifting; just drill, run, drill, put some sweats on, and drill some more. Four pounds is easy to get rid of.

Bacon is right. Don't starve, but don't go overboard. You want a happy tummy! From my personal experience, McDonalds is the last thing you should eat after making weight. Bacon egg and cheese bagel one minute, locked into a stack and pinned the next.
