Lower Back

Recently I took a bit of time(4 months or so) off from exercising. Yesterday, I tried to go do a little running at the local track to see where I was at, and after my first warmup lap, I tried another lap and about 2/3 of the way through it I noticed the muscles in my lower back began to hurt, and the more I ran, the more they started to hurt. I wasn't that winded or anything, just the muscles in my back hurt. So I decided to try to walk half a lap, run half. I did that for a total of 1 lap because by then my back began to hurt so bad I almost couldnt bear it. So, I tried walking a lap to see if it went away, no go. I got my stuff, went to the car and when I sat down in the car seat it started subsiding.

I have no idea what could be causing this, as I have a very strong back(I'm a former powerlifter, and deadlifts were my favorite exercise when I was going to the gym). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The lower back is the first thing to go when you don't warm up properly. If you try to run through the stiffness it mounts up and can end up hurting for a few days. Always stretch your back as mayy ways as possible and do some light core rotation exercises before running - the best being standing with your feet far apart, bend over and touch your left hand to your right foot, then your right hand to your left foot. repeat at speed.

funny I rab across this....I too am having lower back pain. Mine is caused by two things.the first is my lower back muscles are not stable with my my mid back muscles.causing my lower back to over compensate. I have to strengthen my " girdle muscles" through a series of exercises. the other is tight hamstrings. They pull on the lower back.
