Looking for cardio help.

I train 5 days a week. I roll, I wrestle and I kickbox. I do a lot of conditioning drills and I do fine during the drills, but then when I roll, kickbox and wrestle I get tired very quickly. I've been training MMA for about 4 to 5 years, I have my purple belt, but I've never been able to get my cardio right. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Figure out what the problem actually is.

Interesting things to know might include:
1. What your resting heart rate is
2. What your heart rate looks like at the end of a hard round of rolling/kickboxing
3. What your heart rate is one minute after measurement #2

If #1 is high, you might address the problem differently than poor recovery (#3).

Do your cardio first then train.

Last I checked there's a pretty good FAQ to help people get started with a cardio routine.

I love how people make these douchebaggery posts, forgetting that their post is just as much spam as this guy's since you're just doing it to get your post count up.

To the thread starter, what kind of drills are you doing? In addition to the heart rate questions posed already make sure you're at a comfortable weight. Even if you think your cardio is fine and your weight is down, the lack of water could be damaging as could the overtraining on your body which could lead to you tiring quickly.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you're doing conditioning drills the 1st part of class and then KB and rolling. It sounds to me that your relying only on your training in class to keep you in shape. In order to increase your fitness capacity, you should be doing a strength training workout 2-3 days/week. The more you expend during the week the more your body will recupe with greater muscle reserves. Don't forget to get enough calories, water, sleep etc...

It could be that you're not breathing right. Sometimes when the pressure's on in sparring I'll tighten up and hold my breath a bit when throwing hard strikes or attempting a takedown. Really pay attention to your breathing, and try to relax. I like to throw everything about 70%,so you always have a bit more to pile on when you need it.

You probably should supplement your class work with something else. Talk to your coach. I supplement with medicine ball work, light lifting, and some cardio 2x per week. Train Kickbox/MMA 5x. My cardio is improving.

Mix up your cardio on a treadmill, I switched it up between interval training and 8 k runs, 45 sec on at 10, 3 incline, repeat 5 times, however i find sometimes the most tiring thing is just sparring, sparr 5 rounds, fresh guy in after every round, you should have better cardio in no time, if not, than ur not human
