lol finally grew a pair...
Hey guys, I don't post a lot, but I lurk every day, and post when I think I have something relevant, but tonight I just want to give myself a pat on the back lol I was a four sport athlete in high school (football, wrestling, track, baseball), came to college and still ate like a four sport athlete and didnt do shit, I literally gained over sixty pounds in six months and have been depressed about it since, well that was...almost 8 years ago now, and I have been lifting my ass off for a while, and walking my dog about five miles a day, tonight I finally got the balls to do some real long distance (for me) stuff and ran a mile, and walked another, i feel like ass, but it's a good ass lol anyways, wish me luck and continued motivation!

Good luck and good job. What was it that was the final straw for you & made you decide to get off your butt and do something about it?

well, it was a combination really, lol I just got hired as a police officer and have to go to the academy in August (as long as I pass the psych eval) that was pretty much the last straw, then I also downloaded some good music lol amazing how much that helps...but in all seriousness, I'm nowhere close to where I want to be, but I'm a lot better off than I thought I would be going in, I could have done quite a bit more, but I didn't want to over-due it and get hurt or just be WAY too sore to hit it tomorrow. but tomorrow I'll up the laps and keep plugging away, I should probably also mention that I am still walking the dog five miles a day, and lifting at least three times a week, punchin the heavy bag a few times a week, and trying to swim when I can, hopefully start getting that sweet figure back soon! haha

That's cool. And I had to laugh at ashford's comment too. Only cause my ex-stepdad is a cop and he was always really fat.

Good start man! If the academy in Nebraska is anything like other states I would keep up with the jogging/running and start doing a good amount of push ups...most academies are doing lots of both. enjoy!

Thanks, yeah like I said, I had been working out off and on for a while, but it was the possiblity of the academy in August that made me finally say "ok time to start running" lol thanks for the advice,
and someone up top mentioned diet too, I've also cut out fast food completely, (actually i've just quit eating out, other than special occasions) and I quit drinking pop (soda to some of you lol) a few months ago, now I'm just trying to pack as much protiens, fruits, and veggies as possible, also my parents just got my gf and I a grill, so i've been grilling a LOT of chicken breasts, delicious! hehe I don't know how I ever lived without a grill, but I plan on taking measurements and weighing myself tomorrow, and probably taking before pics, then I'll do it again the last day of May and I'll keep you guys updated. Ive been spending a lot of time in the FAQ's on this forum, great stuff in there! any other advice you guys want to throw my way is well appreciated too! haha also as a former wrestler, i have an ingrained hatred of bathroom scales, but don't want to spend the money (or have the room) for an upright scale, can you guys recommend a decent one for an ok price? thanks in advance

edit: bye "one" i meant bathroom scale, not upright...looked goofy when i read back thru it, just wanted to clearify
