Leg cramps on the calves...suggestions?

I recently took a two week break from training (in technique that is. Still did strength training) and when i got on the mat and rolled today, i cramped up in my calves. This has happened before over previous holiday breaks, and i figure that its just that my legs need to get used to it. But in the mean time, does anyone have some suggestions on how i can prevent this? Any help at all is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Cramps may be caused from a lot of different things, but in general it is probably from either overexertion, dehydration, or too much alcohol.

The best things to do are:

1. Drink plenty of fluids during the day.
2. Stretch your leg muscles
3. Get adequate potassium in your diet.
4. More Vitamin B-12

This is it. Especially the water. Proper hydration is so important.

Lamens terms, drink water, eat a bannana, take your multivitamen.

If you are just pushing your body to hard to early then then there is no avoiding it.

I actually went to my uni's football team's doctor cuz I thought I had blood clots. He said it was DOSM and when I told him how much water I drank (about 1.5 gallons/day) he said to cut back on the water and increase the salt (he asked if I had really salty sweat, which I do). Also, he said Potassium isn't usually much of an issue because your body can store it, so if you're eating your fruits and veggies (broccolli has just as much K as a banana), K shouldn't be an issue.

Lack of potassium, sodium and magnesium can cause cramps. How's your diet ? Cramping is a common problem with people eating low/no-carb.
