lactic acid buildup
Apparently I'm getting a large amount of lactic acid/cramping in my calves. I have monstrerous legs ( I've had body builders ask how my legs are so muscular) and my calves are getting really crampy whenever I strech/loosen up. These charle horses are kind of making me worried when I'm about to work out.
I drink a lot of water and have been eatting bannannas as I read that may assist in abating the build up. Is there anything else I might be able to do to avoid this painful cramping from happening? Thanks in advance
P.S. I checked the search function and came up with a bunch of stuff that isn't related.

Check this blog by Dr. Dugas and Dr. Ross; they just completed a 5-part series on muscle cramping that debunks a LOT of the common myths. It's heavy reading, but well worth it.

I don't run very much. I Swim and I also Row like a mad man. It's less impact and better for your whole body from everything I've read. I do it at in insane rate like 50 rows per minute.

You say your apparently getting what your experiencing? I presume you got some advice regarding this issue, if you didn't know yourself already?
Do you do weights seriously yourself? if so, do you squat?
What's your flexibility like in general with your legs? calve ROM?
Do you stretch frequently?
What's your bio-mechanics like? i.e. over pronation of feet (flat feet)
Palpate your calves for tender spots that are painful to touch (hypersensitive) you may well have trigger points (will feel like knots)in them that need released? this can be done by self massage. Go quite deep with your thumbs, again, feeling for any areas that make your squirm a bit.

I use to have a similar problem for a time.
I use to stretch my caves before I ran, and then when I ran, my calves would tire out pretty quick. So what I thought I needed to do was stretch it more and it made the problem worse.
Now I just do dynamic stretches on my calves where I just spin my foot around and now my runs are better than ever, no problems with the calves anymore.
(In fact I do dynamic stretches before any workout now and do the deep stretches after)
So try that, do dynamic stretches instead of static stretches and see if there's any difference.

I think I was watching the discovery channel one night, where the mentioned that some indigenous people chew a vine called Tayuya, that is supossed to greatly reduce lactic acid. Not that im being any help to you, but its cool how many plant "cures" there are out there.

Whats even cooler is the rate at which we're destroying rainforests around the world, putting to extinction thousands and thousands of plant species that could have potentially been helpful all because dam republicans back big business. I hope your not republican, this will make you a hypocrite.
