Knee Injury

I recently tore my ACL while grappling and I need surgery. Rehab is about 4 months long. I was wondering if anyone has any helpful suggestions to help keep my conditioning up somehow or am I just plain screwed?

If not conditioning, any workouts or helpful healing tips would be greatly appreciated.

Damn I hate being injured

Well in terms on lower body work...you are screwed...but that doesnt mean you cannot do upper body work...I know your conditioning will suffer but something is better than nothing. Find out from your doctor what you can do and go hard...you may lose a little but it will make coming back easier if you dont sit on you ass.

Would it be wise to try and work out my left(Healthy) leg?

I suppose there's no better time than a recovering knee to work on your 90-degree push-ups.

You're basically screwed. Also, rehab is more like 6 to 9 months. Speaking from experience here since I just had ACL surgery 11 weeks ago. Right now, the only aerobic exercise I can do is bike, elliptical, and swimming. As far as my TKD training. I can assit, but put no power behind any of my moves. Basically just going through the motions. No sparring, no pivoting, no lateral movements. No running or jogging until at least 4 months post surgery. This is what you have to look forward to. After your surgery, sit your butt in the CPM machine they deliver to you. Use it every single day. Schedule your PT as soon as you can and work yourself. Good luck to you. I definitely feel for you.

Also, try and get into PT before surgery to get your range of motion back. Makes it easier after surgery. Someone also recommended a medicine ball to workout with. That way you can keep your core strong. It was great advice.

True, It's looking like surgery is on for first week of March. I'm still lifting upper body, as far as legs I am walking w/o crutches and have been for a few days. I just get on a treadmill and go incline to help my legs.

It's great that you're walking but also work on bending your knee. I cannot reiterate how important that range of motion is. You don't want to be too stiff before surgery. One thing I will say is listen to your doctor and physical therapist. Let them tell you when you are able to get back into grappling. I didn't and tried getting back into TKD class 10 weeks after surgery. I've set myself back a bit because I was impatient. I posted a thread a few months ago regarding torn ACL and everyone told me to take my time. I can tell you I'm going to listen to that advice.
