Jump Rope?
So I got a plastic jump rope the other day from Sports Authority. Today, I cut down the rope to my liking and headed off to the gym. I started jumping rope and the rope kept hitting the ground in front of me, not really nicking it, more like actually hitting it. So there was times where I would jump but the rope would hit the ground and bounce up and hit my feet. I felt extremely embarrassed and adjusted it and then hit starting hitting my head. How do you figure out the right length of the jump rope? Is it suppose to actually hit the ground or more like just nick the ground? Can anyone recommend a good jump rope from sports authority or Dicks, I would prefer a non-plastic one....Because I got the plastic one and its not straight, some parts are bent/jagged and so those parts sometimes deflect off my head or body....I don't understand because I was doing fine and then all of a sudden the rope would either hit my head or hit the ground and bounce up....Thanks.

Stand on the rope, the handles should just reach your armpits, after adjusted if it is still hitting you, it is you that needs to get used to the action of jumping rope.

Are there any good jump ropes that are not plastic like at Dicks sporting goods or Sports Authority. It's not like I need to get used to jumping rope, literally I would be jumping and it would clearly it the ground and bounce up and hit my feet. I was also purposely jumping pretty high and it would still hit my feet.

That's a good starting point for a beginner but too long for my preference. I use a rope that is a few inches shorter than that. What you could do is buy a new rope and instead of cutting it, just make a knot by the handle to make it shorter and adjust it until you find a good length.

Sorry, last question. Since my rope is plastic and not straight, how to I make it straight...because the plastic rope is still bent/curvy in some parts, and eventually those parts hit my body....Sorry, that proll doesnt make sense...lol.

Find a place to hang it. Eventually there will only be a kink in the middle where it hangs and that will be pulled straight by the force if it spinning. Or buy a leather rope.

I prefer leather, but I tend to have the opposite problem. I am 6-4' and have issues finding a rope long enough. :o)
