I usually do my cold soak after practice. Finish the workout, and do my cool down, then go home and hit the cold soak. I have a 10 min drive home, so that is time to rehydrate, and get protein in me. It's home, cold soak, and my dinner. That is what happens after my workout.

I used to take cold showers after swimming practices in college and loved them. I'm much more of a wimp now. Very interested in this, so how should it go exactly?

10 minutes after workout: cold shower
10 minutes later: hot shower
10 minutes later: cold shower...

How many of these cycles are optimal?

and

Does the cold shower have to be the first one after workout?

Thanks.

lol. Tried it last night. Took a brief hot shower and switched to cold, then filled the tub and sat for 10 minutes. You're right about the shrinkage. The funny thing it makes you look really buff afterward because of all the muscle contractions. I definitely feel less sore this morning though. I'll probably try putting ice in the tub next time.

Thats the shock and numbness

When I was in thailand a few years ago the training camp I stayed at had a extremely hot sauna and in the middle very cold water. Stand on the seats, breath in the eucalyptus smell and then when you feel dizzy, cover yourself in cold water and repeat.

God that was good

Hey all, first post here.
This thread is very interesting, I started to do icy cold showers aswell for around 2 weeks now. Man it's so cold! and like 2 other people said I feel alittle like i'm drowning and my vision sort of "dims" and I start to breath heavy. hehe. Feels like it helps a little with recovery and gives you a fresh feeling right after.
After training i jump right into a icy shower for a couple of minutes and then i shower normaly.

I've been doing cold showers/ ice baths for about a year now, and eventually you get so used to it. At first you go through the hesitation, but in time it you actually look forward to it, & just attack the water. You can tell Wand had been doing it for a long time- that water was like 38F & he just plunged into it.
They definitely eliminate the inflamation- I haven't been sore in a damn long time.
