I want to get my cardio built up fast
First off, I wanna say these forums kick the utmost ass. Now onto the matter at hand. I fought my first MMA fight (should you choose to call it that) June 23rd, and got beat like I stole something. The organization I fought in said they paired people based on experience in the cage. ( My two buddies both got thrown in there with cherries and did well). I however in my first MMA fight get thrown into a main event fight against a guy with tons of experience. I go out to touch gloves and he drops a big right that I never recovered from. My goal is to drop to at least 205, for two reasons. 1) When I was in college I wrestled at 197 pounds so I could do well I think there, 2) I plan on enlisting in the Army to get my life back on track. Now I plan on eventually joining an MMA gym around here, but I want to get myself into some kid of shape beforehand. What can I do to build my cardio up real quick? I have a friend who is an amateur bodybuilder who gave me a good workout as far as weights, but I want to know what to do to build my lungs up. Fire away.

these forums kick ass.
I have never read these forums in my life.
I would not know from not reading these forums that running is not the best way to get my cardio up.
I would not know what HIIT means.
I know none of this.
I can't read.
I like cheeseburgers.
and Pepsi.
Please help me.

Stairmaster. Don't forget to load up on carbs for post workout. A Coca-Cola or sugar sandwich will do.

Well I figured getting some insight from other posters aside from a gigantic gallery of links would be a little more helpful. Forgive me if I didn't dedicate half of my day to reading the FAQ and wanted to just ask a question. I didn't realize it was a prerequisite of this board to be a pretentious ass.

Foz told you what to do if you would have looked past his sarcasm. And there is no one trick to having better cardio. It requires dedication and determination. So break out the running shoes and get moving.
Oh and might want to post that weight routine of yours in the S&P forum. The guys there love bodybuilder routines.

I meant actual running plans, and I didn't know until I saw Foz's post what HIIT was. We did it in school for conditioning, but never put a name to it...I just called it hell. Basically right now I simply hit the treadmill for 25-35 minutes after a lifting workout, but want something tougher, and something to help me get my wind faster. What specifics have you seen used that could maximize cardio building, as well as weight loss?

MMA isn't a jog, it's a 5-minute sprint. Imo, the best way to prepare for it is to do just that, sprint. I know a few of my training partners used to do 10 two minute sprints for their cardio when preparing for a fight. If you want something good to start with, try 3 sets of 10 40-yard sprints.
