I am fighting 8/11/07 in Pendelton, OR...

I submitted my application to the FCFF to fight in the next show in Pendelton, OR. I just have to fight, even if it's once. I need some training advice on weight loss and cardio. I am 6foot 8 and 345 pounds. The guy I am supposed to fight is 6'3" 236lbs. Neither of us have fought in a cage before. I would like to be about 300lbs by fight time. Any advice? I already have a gym to go to. Blue Mountain Martial arts. I have no bjj, or wrestling experience.

As far as weight loss and cardio goes, work on intervals and circuit training. For intervals do stuff like 4x800, 8x200, 20x50, 6x400, etc. try to mix it up and do 2 different kinds of intervals in a workout. For circuits do full body conditioning exercises, like burpees, jump rope, air squats, medicine ball exercises, lateral jumps, sledge work, etc. Once again try to mix it up and pick 4-6 exercises to perform in a circuit. I did a circuit yesterday that looked like this:

5 dumbell snatches per arm
10 medicine ball slams,
10 medicine ball woodchoppers,
10 burpees
rest 45-60 secs and repeat 5 times

another circuit off the top of my head might be:
10 burpees
1 minute jump rope
10 dumbbell swings per arm
1 minute mountain climbers
15 air squats

tabata intervals can also work wonders.

I recommend you check out the articles and forums at rosstraining.com. There are a few experienced fighters there and ross himself is a world class personal trainer for combat sports. He takes the time to respond to forum threads and will personally respond to your emails, so don't hesistate to email him your questions.

Also, if you want to lose that much weight, you will probably have to modify your diet as well. I'm not sure what your current diet is like but it could probably use some work.

I don't know why, that is just what I was told by Chael Sonnen. I watched the last Rumble in the round up city and there was a guy that was 313lbs vs. a guy that was like 260lbs.

you're a sitting duck. work the sprawl, work the guard. and clinch defense (frame up, push off).

I have some coaching lined up. Boxing, BJJ, and wrestling. I am going to go to Washington for some kick boxing. I only have 3 months until I fight.

If you are really 345 pounds, I wouldn't recommend that you start running 800s or 400s on the track just yet.

Figure out a way to learn some jujitsu because with 600+ pounds of humanity in the ring, it is eventually going to go to the ground and when it does, the person on top will have a much bigger advantage than he should.

Good luck, it takes balls to get in the ring/cage like that.

He's 6`8 345, I highly doubt he will be able to handle those circuits or anything on rosstraining.com
