How/why did you start?

Where are you coming from, or where did your conditioning training start? Are you a 16 year old kid that rolls at jiu jitsu practice and are trying to last longer, or are you a 40 year old Tank Abbott coming from a bar stool trying to lose some weight?

On top of that, where are you at in your pursuits? Are still just getting your sea legs, or are you poppin off 100 burpees in your sleep? Also what is your ultimate goal, or what is the purpose of your training?

I'll start, I personally am coming off of about a 4 year bender. For the past four years I have smoked cigs, drank MANY beers, and ate everything I ever felt like. Now I am overweight, and out of shape. I quit smoking about a month ago, and have gradually gotten back into exercising over the past 4-5 weeks.

Right now, I am doing heavy bag work, jumping rope, doing sprints, running stadium stairs, lifting weights and mountain biking. At this point I'm still just sort of popping the work out cherry. I work out very hard considering the fact that I've been a slob for the past 4 years. I should say that I wrestled for 6 years, and at one point in my life had only 7% body fat. I'm not that fat on the spectrum of fat people, but I am definitely overweight considering my past.

My goals are pretty simple.
1. I just want to feel healthier and have more energy.
2. I want to lose 20 lbs. (I weigh 185 and I want to weigh under 165)

I can't say that I really have a purpose. I just want to feel good.

That's where i was when i started. Decided it was time for a life overhaul. About 5 years ago or so now.

Now my goals are:
a) keep in some sort of shape while i try to recover from this injury, then
b) gradually get back to training properly so i can
c) fight

similar story here. up until about 3 years ago i was in pretty good shape and could pretty much do anything without a second thought. now i feel like i got mule kicked in the chest after pushing the lawnmower around for a half hour.

i'm actually beginning my road to a new and better life as well. i'm having a building put up in my yard and will put down mats, add bags, etc, etc.

good post. i admire you for quiting smoking and getting back on track. keep working hard!

Bit of a different story here. I was in OK shape through high school, doing karate and some (in retrospect) very uneducated weight lifting. In college I decided to row for the crew team, since I had heard it was the most challenging sport at the college level, and I thought I was tough (Ha, ha...). 4 years later and I had a completely transformed physique, and like to think I really am tough now, thanks to the brutal training of a sport that's 80-90% fitness.

Now it's 2 months later and I'm trying to keep up that fitness as I transition to MMA training. Getting stronger and fatter every day, but hopefully will slim down as I get better at a new kind of conditioning.

Sucks that I somehow posted two threads. Could one of the mods delete the other one?
