How many sit ups

So normally i'll do 500 sit ups a day taking a 10 second break every 100. I don't do them fast and I feel my form is good. However, I decided to double it up and do 1000. It probably took me like 30 mins and I got a good sweat up. The next day I could barely walk. Is a 1000 too much?????
I'm not only doing one type either. I alternate between five types of situps. Anybody else? What do you do for your abs?

Hundred rep sets of anything aren't going to do much for you when compared to your other options.

100X5 or 100X10 are both not going to be your best bet.

Spending that same 10-30 minutes on other ab exercises will yield better results whether you are doing it for performance or cosmetic reasons. A mix of hanging leg raises, twists, declines, and crunches will be far better all around than what you are currently doing.

Try standing ab rollouts. I can do situps for days, but rollouts make me feel like an infant.

Try planks, they're pretty good to me.

You can do side planks as well to hit your obliques.

Do you mean is 1000 too many for fitness?

I'd say it'll give you some severe muscular control.

Personally, I try to work them from as many angles and modes of movement as possible. I've recently invented ab-wheel roll-outs and I hate them for being so hard. Try doing your abdominal exercises with added weight and you'll notice strength endurance etc improving.

Sweet fucking christ... you need to load that shit up, and un-anchor your feet. I think 500 is too much. 100 at the most. Get some iron and load that shit up.

If your looking for real ab strength, go with weighted sit ups. I simply do 1 set of 50 with plates on my chest. This is more than enough to yield excellent results. Do not neglect your obliques, start doing side bends building up to a good weight with controlled form. I'm currently using 121lbsx10reps on them and am starting to feel it. I only do 2 ab sessions as part of my normal W/O's which again, is enough. Forget the triple number stuff, you honestly don't need it.

Better off doing Weighted situps, Windmills, Side Bends, 5x5 reps
