I had rotator cuff surgery. Depending on the severity, 4 mos. recovery. Therapy after 4 weeks. First week therapist will do most of the shoulder movement then light movement with supervision. My doctor says my range of motion will be back to normal after a year. My surgery was in Sept of last year. I can now touch my right shoulder blade witn no problem. Whatever you do, make it to your rehab sessions. I had two setbacks and I only missed one session.

Make sure you take your sling with you to the operation. Your doctor should have given you a reputable company. Don't use those hospital slings. They are flimsy because my arm fell out without me knowing. Get your icebox ready the night before operation. Also practice how to put in on with one arm. I was told I could eat toast once I got home. I did but I puked four times in one minute. Also every 1/2 hour I was in the bathroom trying to urinate. I had to push on my bladder just to get things started. Which only ended in a trickle. By the next day I was pissing normally. Be prepared to sleep on your back.

Once you are given the okay to return to normal duties you might want to look into some Indian Clubs or Clubbells. I use mock clubbells and I must say they are great for shoulder strength.

i just my shoulder oprated on july 31 had a tirn tendon they told me it would 1yr untill my tendon was 100% and not to even think about training or lifting until maybe 6 months or so kinda sucks for me but i don't want to tear it again.i would say no you will not be ready to fight in march i would take it slow and easy you can always fight in may or june but march may be to soon.i would rather take a few more monthes and win a fight then try to fight to soon and lose b/c of my shoulder.....

listen to what 52pug said get some frozzen veggies bags thats what i used for my shoulder ice that thing down 30min on 30mins off and you will be sleeping in the upright pos.kinda sucks but you will get thru it...i am still in rehab right now sucks but i know i have to do it so i can get back in the gym .....good luck

The rotator cuff is comprised of for different muscle and it really depends on how many muscles and which muscle you actually tore.

52PUG gave you a good run down on the post-op course.
Range of motion is all passive early on, then progresses to active and then you begin strengthening.
You may wish to ask your surgeon about 2 things
1) pain pump : a small catheter inserted into the subacromial space which infuses local anesthetic for about 48 hours post-op for added pain control.
2) Polar-care: or other such device, is a flat pad which lays against the dressing and connects to an ice chest via tubes which circulate ice water through it.
These may or may not be available depending on hospital or insurance.

good luck

You are on target. I forgot all about those devices. My insurance did not cover the ice chest but the company goofed and I saved $150.00.
