How Long did you train before your first fight?

Hey all,

I'm new here and decided to try and make a worthwhile topic as my first legitimate post.

My question is this: How long did you train before your first fight?

I've been trianing for 2 months at my local MMA gym and am thinking of climbing into the cage in Feb 2008. Been doing alot of grappling training and working on my striking methods as well as conditioning and strength. I just wanted to find out what methods and how long you had trained before fighting.

Most of the guys I know who actually want to climb into the cage/ring have been training most of their lives...

iv never fought but

2 of the guys i train with have

1 trained for somewhere close to 10 years and started preparing specifically for the fight 3 months ahead of time

the other guy i think has abt 4 or 5 years training and 3 months fight prep

EDIT* do you mean you started learning mma in a gym 2 months ago or do u mean u have been training other stuff for a long time and training mma at that place for 2 months, either way i'm not sure thats considered enough training. but what do i know, iv never fought

lol I just began training for this stuff period. I'm not looking at making a living fighting by any means. I've been an athlete my entire life, and have been in my fair share of fist fights. I'm drawn to this like a moth drawn to light.

My mate had his first amateur fight after 6 weeks training! He went 1-2 amateur (no head shots at all) and is now 5-0 in semi-pro rules (head shots standing) after about 2 years.

He's fighting b-class pro rules next year which is pretty much full rules except no elbows on the ground.

There is no set amount of time really, just depends on you as a person. I'm planning on having my first fight next year (semi-pro) after around 18 months of training.

Brad Imes had only been training around a year before he went on TUF. Corey Hill hadn't fought at all and is still gonna be on a UFC card!

Thanks spirez that was inspirational and lets me know that it has been done. I'm planning on doing the semi-pro fights here in Oklahoma as that seems to be about all there is in the way of MMA.

i've done my first muay thai match after 7 months. i was suposed to compete against a guy at my age, weigh and time of training, but in the day the guy wasnt feeling well so they offered me a heavier older and more experienced fighter.

i accepted, it was a hard fight, i've got some nasty cuts but i won by points

dunno if this helped, but thats what i have got to offer...well is good to consider, cause thay is way more dangerous and body punishing than mma, so...

I took my first after about 9 months or so... Just make sure you're in shape as nerves will drain you cardio wise.
