How fast can a normal hard worker run a 5k?

Lets say you have the average american(genetics wise) and he trains 5-6 times a week hard and right, how fast do u think 6 months of hard work will get him

I think hard work by itself, without genetics will enable someone to run a 5k in somewhere between 16:20 and 17:30

Depends on various factors

What shape are u in before u start training?
How tall are u? what do u weigh?

Are u built for speed?

a 16 minute 5k is outrageous. Seriously, that is usually top 20 in a state high school meet.

So the average guy, Yeah, bout 30 minutes honestly.

I've been running for 2 years, I am 5'8, 185 pounds and I run under 2 hour half marathons and the best I've ever done a 5k is 22 minutes.

So there are tons of factors that go into it.

Honestly it all depends on the individual. I've met guys in great shape who can't run for shit. For some it may take a long time to reach that level. Personally, I was running 17:50-18:30 5k's after about two months of dedicating myself to distance running (3-6 miles 5x/week). I didn't use any sort of special diet, I kind of just ate whatever I felt like. Of course running comes a bit easier to me than bigger guys because I'm 5'8" and 150 lbs.
