Any advice on what it could be? A trainer at the gym i work out stretched me out the other day and it almost felt like it popped and it was good for a couple days, which leads me to believe it's displacing. I'm trying to stretch more before BJJ and hockey, but any other advice? Exercises i can do to strengthen it without straining it too much?

I had the same issue -- same hip -- months ago, and understanding the controversial nature of chiropractic medicine, I decided to visit a highly recommended area chiropractor.
I was told my hip was displaced and had been for some time, and after having it popped back into place, I immediately felt better. The doctor informed me that the hip would pop out again, and that I'd probably have to visit 4-5 more times before it started staying in place. Thankfully, I get up to six visits a year completely covered by my health insurance. So I followed his advice and while I felt great for a while, a fraction of the pain has returned this week.
I wasn't given any sort of exercises or anything like that, but the chiropractor did help, though the solution hasn't proven to be a permanent one.
Hope that helps some.
