It explains that the Tabata method increases both aerobic capacity, enabling you to, say, run longer, as well as anaerobic capacity, which the article describes as your ability to sprint all out. Typical aerobic exercise, it says, has no effect on anaerobic capacity.
So, it seems HIIT is very relevant to MMA; you want the cardio to last longer as well as to go harder.
