HIIT, LDR and recovery time

So i've been doing long distance RUNNING of about 4 miles three times a week, and a HIIT session in the middle of it all during the week, usually with a hill.

Now today i was gassed and did 8 sets of 15 second sprints uphill and jogged back, then rested 10 seconds, then went back at it, 8 times.

I jogged afterwards for my cool down, and was walking around and after my ankles stopped hurting after about 5 minutes i felt like i had full breath like i never even ran. I was gassed bad by the end of my 8th sprint, and couldve done a couple more if i would of rested another minute, i came to that conclusion.

What the hell is causing this? Is my aerobic conditioning getting alot better or anerobic conditioning getting better? I was shocked just by the recovery i had once i finished my run! I wasn't really DEAD and feeling out of breath. Maybe i'm not doing something right, help

LSD traing will improve your recovery time during intervals. I find that my breathing and HR drop much faster between intervals when I do a lot of LSD training.
