**Is this a high Blood Pressure problem???**

I was just at my friends house today and we were discussing exercise plans. We measured our bpm, and found that my friend had an average of 90 bpm (15 beats per 10 seconds). I measured around 10-11 beats per ten seconds and so did my other friend.

Is getting 15 beats in 10 seconds considered high blood pressure? Is it possible that this is hereditary and that it is not so bad? I told him it can be reduced through proper diet and cardio. However i beleive it is good to get more opinions on this. Can anyone help give me sugestions for my friend???

Measuring for 10 seconds and then multiplying the result isn't a very good indicator. You might not have been fully relaxed when you took it. Try measuring for at least 30 sec, preferably a full minute, and see if it's the same result.

If your RHR is 90, see a doctor. Stop eating salty shit, do more LSD cardio.

1. Take your pulse for a full minute, at rest.

2. If it's 60-100, your pulse/heart rate is considered normal (according to medical standards).

3. If it's below 60 and you are young and exercise regularly, it is a sign of good conditioning. Lance Armstrong's is reported to be sub30.

4. If it's over 100 at rest, you might have a problem. Make sure you aren't on caffeine or other stimulants and taht you are at rest. Take it again. If it's still > 100, go see a doctor.

That is on the high side if the number is accurate. Caffiene can increase HR, but clots and thickening of the blood can as well. Having a BP cuff would help.

High blood pressure and pulse are two very different things.

Pulse(heart rate) is what you measured. A good cardio workout will lower the resting heart rate considerably. Top notch athletes have RHRs of less than 60. 80's is OK, not great. 90 is pretty damn high.

But if your RHR is so bad that it's at 90, it might be a good idea to check out your blood pressure as well...

take it for 30 seconds then x2...might get a bit more accurate of a measure. Maybe you had caffeine before you took it? Take it before you get out of bed in the morning. If it's still 90...see a doctor...that's quite high even for someone sedentary. And as someone said...it's not blood pressure it's heart rate.

I'm one of those guys, RHR is in the low 50s which is really good, bloodpressure on the other hand not so good. You need to know both to get a more accurate judge of your general health.

I am also one of those people whose heart rate drops like a rock back to resting when I get done working out. I thinks its because most of my cardio is geared for doing rounds and I feel like you can train recovery.
