Anywhere along the Rockies. Denver Colorado is high up there. When I went running in Durango CO near NM it made my time go in the tank, and it isn't the highest place in CO. I think they show individual town's elevation on Wikipedia.

I'm going to be in Cloudcroft, NM for a few weeks in the summer, I always try and do some sort of workouts while I'm up there, but it takes a while for me to get used to the elevation, I gas very easily. The elevation is 8000+ ft.

Some studies suggest the best moethod for high altitude training is to sleep high and train low. I have looked into hypoxic aids such as tents (simulated altitude). But they are an expensive option $5000 USD for the basic models!

Brad Morris is right, the literature suggests that "Live high, train low" is the optimal strategy, because living at altitude causes you to produce more red blood cells, and working at low altitude allows you to use more oxygen and work harder. So, live anywhere up high where you can get somewhere low to work out. I personally distrust an $5000 piece of equipment that promises to take oxygen out of my air, even though Nike built a house for distance runners to live in that does the same thing.

A mouth guard is a great hypoxic aid and it only costs a few bucks.

Would it have the same effect? And wouldn't you have to wear it whenever you weren't training? I sleep with my mouth closed, so I don't know how much difference it would make.
