help a newb out

hello i used to think i was healthy because i lift weights and go to the gym until i tried to wrestle with a friend. lol at me i gassed out fast and all that muscle i had did not do anything for me except make me feel heavy. you see i used to be a skinny kid and i bulked up. anyway it seems that i just discovered that bodybuilding is a waste of time it gave me the illusion i was healthy i got strong but i was not able to use much of it.

so my friend is inviting me to join thier wrestling and mma class i am quite interested my question is should i give up lifting weights completely and just do bodyweight excercises? will i return to my old skinny weight?? i mean it's fine if i lose some mass but i hope i dont return to being so skinny

There's no reason to give up weight lifting altogether.

Well yeah, you'll have to work out your training schedule and prioritize based on your goals but you can still include 1-2 lifting sessions per week.

Did you just focus on getting big without much cardio?

there is no reason to quit your liftng, your cardop probably sucks becaue 1. not used to the sport 2. not used to your new weight. Keep lifting, you just might want to focus on cardio more intensivly then before, but as Sonny has pointed out you have to prioritize!

Your use of the term bodybuilding disturbs me. Make sure to swing by S&P and work out a functional routine. I think you'll find a practical powerlifting routine will only help you on the mat.

Not to mention that the first time you roll, you dont realize you need to chill the f*** out and let things come to you. You try and power out of everything, youre working a LOT harder than you need to. meanwhile, the vet youre working with is staying relaxed and lketting you tire youreself out.

as others mentioned:

1. Come by the S&P forum to get a good functional strength program going
2. Wrestle more

If i were you, and i am by no means an expert but try introducing some High Intensity Training

For example you could go on a treadmill or run in general but a treadmill helps regulate intensity

On the treadmill put the speed up to say 12 mph and do 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off for 10 minutes then 15 seconds on 15 seconds off for 5 minutes, and then do a jog on say 6mph for a few minutes to warm down

This is just a guideline so you get the idea, the principle is there of High intensity you can adapt it to whatever method you like doing, 30 seconds flat out on the bike etc.
