Ive trained with Nazarian team and bunch of wrestling and sambo nationals and I know the routine they are going through.
The usual training done by high level athlete is not so one dimensional as you are presenting it. It includes few different circuits, tabata training, heavy weights lifting and running/ swimming/ playing football in 1 week.
Usualy it goes like this:
3-4 circuits, tabatas after sparring, heavy lifting (mostly deadlift, squats, push press and oly lifts) 1-2 a week. Running/ swimming/ football is also 1-2 times a week.

Who is being one dimensional? All I said is that I disagree with doing weights for cardio and doing shit just `cause it`s hard. Plus my whole point from the beginning is that if you are a grappler then you can use grappling as a form of steady state cardio very effectively. I didn`t say it`s the only thing you should do but I think it`s a big part of it.
I do some form of steady state cardio 4-5 times a week. That being on top of hours of grappling. It only makes too much sense to combine the 2 things and cut my training time in half. That way I still have time for weights, sprints, boxing...
And as far as Tabatas go, they are just intervals and they are only good insofar as you know when and how to use them. And "tabatas with weights" doesn`t even make sense since tabatas were done on a bike.

says my first post in the thread.
Where did you saw exclusively weight training and tabatas with weights?
I oppose to the opinion that conditioning for grappling should be done with running!
What I write about clean and press is not tabata, its explosive interval training.

Running is a tool just like weights and intervals are. Used properly every tool has it`s time and place. Then again using clean+press for cardio is just as bad as doing long distance running with a weighed vest and ankle weights, or wearing socks over your shoes...

If you hate running you can skip, do stairs or swim. I hate running, if I ever do sprints or anything I do it in a park, because IMO human knees were not designed for running on pavement and all these fancy cushiony shoes are just trying to hide that fact. I love running in my bare feet, on beaches, grass, everyone does and noone says that shit is hard on your knees because it isn't. /rant

"This form of training is also effective for fat loss. Tabata Intervals will raise your body’s metabolic rate long after the exercise session is completed. You will continue to burn fat throughout the day. Many recent studies have confirmed that the powerful "after-effect" of interval training is much more effective (for fat loss) than low-intensity, continuous exercise. "
Can anybody chime in on this? He doesn't cite any sources...
