Getting started....

Hey guys, there is a lot of great advice on here but I have a few specific questions about getting started. So recently I have just moved to Sweden with my girlfriend and being far from Canada I have found myself kinda bored, so I just signed up at a local mma gym here that focuses on muay thai and gracie barra bjj..but the next semester doesnt begin for a month and a half so I joined a gym and thought I would push myself hard for a bit.

A bit about me, I am 26 years old, 6 foot 4, 228 lbs, and I would like to think my conditioning has a pretty good level base already. I run 4 days a week for a total of 15-20 miles per week and I run the 10km in 54 minutes. The problem with me though, is I am good at running but I havent weight trained since high school and I was wrestling competitively. I hit the gym yesterday and felt super weak, couldnt even do 2 pull ups haha.

So my question for you guys is if someone is looking to get into mma, I dont know if I will compete or not or just train, havent looked that far ahead, taking it one step at a time, what is a good training cycle to begin with. Should I go straight to the free weights to develop strength and do a block of that then go into explosive conditioning as the next block, or should I stick to bodyweight workouts(crossfit), or should I mix them all? Its been almost 10 years since I have been in a gym so I am just looking for some advice what you guys would do if you were me, what is the best base to build kind of thing before mixing in technique. Any other info you need from me if you need me to be more accurate on something let me know!

Cheers and thanks a lot!
Donnie

just dive in headfirst bro, it's the best way. No matter what you do, you wont get into shape to train until you start doing it. And trust me, you will get plenty of work in class. They will kick your ass.

6'4, 228? you must have a lot of lean muscle or something with all the running you do.
I'm 6'5, 215.

anyways. I suggest hitting it hard. focus on your chest, back, core and legs. don't waste time on biceps. Good luck, bro.
