Gene doping... soon to be MMA's biggest adversary??

Gene doping is soon to explode onto the world of professional sport.
Athletes will no doubt be trying to take advantage of the leaps in these recent scientific breakthroughs to amass more muscle, more endurance, less injuries and basically become better... without putting in any extra effort.

The problem is scientists are having a hard time figuring out how to test for the new 'GENE DOPING' methods and cannot say whether positive tests will ever be a reality at all and definitely wont be available until 2020.

So my question is, how big a thorn in the side of MMA will this new scientific breakthrough be?

Okay well instead of steroids being injected, there is a method which was initially designed to save the lives of people who suffer from some kind of muscle wasting desease.
This method, as I understand, takes the genes from healthy muscle tissue and multiplies it to make the muscles stronger, healthier and better.
Basicaly its untracable. Users will have no change in urine or blood and will have the exact same genetics as when they started out, so it is a worry being as though there can be no proof that an athlete has benefited from the treatment.

I am clearly no expert, doctor, scientist or anything of the kind, but i roughly understand how the process is used to save lives and how it could equally be used to make athletes perform better and be stronger. Sorry I cannot explain the process to you any better than that...

I appreciate your bringing this to our awareness. Could you supply us with any kind of reference/resource/article/news story/research paper/old wives' tale? I read your post but I still don't understand what it is.

This explains some;

http://www.sportingo.com/more-sports...here-/1001,898

Key paragraph;
The leaps and bounds in technology, though, may mean that in the future the whole issue of doping may become redundant, because there is the potential for doping to be forever hidden away and undetectable. Today, most of the known performance-enhancing drugs are detectable, although there are probably many others the testers just aren’t aware of. The power of gene therapy will make the whole testing system obsolete and impotent, especially when doping goes ‘inside the genes’.

No matter whether we are talking about humans or animals, gene doping will cross all doping boundaries because it has the potential to permanently change the body, not just temporarily like conventional drugs. And it will affect all sports.

I just heard it on the radio in my car about an hour ago... they are extremely worried that London's Olympics is just going to be totally ruined by this new phenomenon.

I have had a look around and cannot find that articla, but I did find the link that I posted in my last post and that says pretty much the same, only without the various scientific interveiws...

Its quite worrying to say the least.

Here is an interview about GENE DOPING

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/avdb/spo...91_16x9_bb.asx

it is not just simply used to breed race-horses or any creatures from scratch; It is feared athletes could use the technique to gain advantages such as greater endurance or bigger muscles.

They would be able to create a gene mutation through a single injection, without leaving substance traces, unlike the misuse of drugs such as anabolic steroids.

So basically they can inject an ammount into their arms for instance and then the muscles grow thats to the growth hormone.
Scary stuff...
