I'm going to check on a new pair of shoes to see if it might be biomechanical, and if that doesn't work, I'm going to see an orthopedist.

It is really irritating, because I'm FINALLY starting to actually enjoy running, and now this.
I think you just have answered your own question.

You should treat yourself to a reflexology massage.
It'll make your feet feel great and any painful triggerring spots in the treatment will point out specific issues in your feet.

Also look into "goose bump balls" to stand on stimulate your feet and rolling a tennis ball under you feet as well.

I wonder if you have a fallen arche that's causing your problem?
Its a problem I had and got some good arche supports and I've been great since.

Yeah, and after another run, I think it's the shoes. But I don't think it's biomechanical. At about 15 minutes I was having to wiggle my left toes because they were starting to numb up. I guessed that my foot was swelling and causing the shoe to be too tight, so I stopped and loosened it. Way beyond what you'd ever start running with. The numbness went away and didn't return.

Now, I can't run like this or I'm in danger of my shoe flying off for the first 10 minutes or so (until my foot swells). So I'm going to a specialty running store, having the feet measured, and getting a stride analysis and getting a better pair of shoes. Mind you, the Asics 2110 series is a fine shoe. These are just apparently not for me, or if they are, I need a wider shoe for the left foot. It's weird, because all of the ones I used before were fine. I started on the 2030.

I'll update again after I get some new ones. I'll probably be running on these for another week or two, but I've been using the elliptical and running sparingly, so I think that will be fine for now. FWIW, this never happens on the elliptical. That could be because there is no impact, but my guess is that it's because my feet are not swelling, whether because of the low impact or something else.

I don't think that's it. I have pretty high arches. In fact, it very well could be that the newer versions of the Asics 2xxx series have TOO much motion control for my feet, but if that were the problem, I'd guess it would reveal in both feet. Once they check my feet and stride out, I'll update, and we'll know for sure.

I DEFINITELY qualify for "out of shape." I got a horrible upper respiratory infection early this winter and couldn't train for about 2 months straight. Ironically enough, that's why I started running so much more. The problem is, I'm getting into better shape, and it doesn't seem to be going away.

I went to Phidippides (a local running specialty store) on Friday with my shoes, fully expecting to need a brand new pair. They got Jeff Galloway's book out and used it as a reference to re-lace my shoes with some odd-looking lacing pattern.

It was just crazy enough to work. VERY little tingling at all, no real numbness, and less soreness in my achilles (which I just ASSumed was normal after a beginner's run). Got through the entire run today in relative comfort. Interestingly, the Asics 2110 has these odd tabs on the middle lace-holes that were not present on the prior version I had. They may put too much pressure at the mid-foot. Either way, the new lacing worked wonders.

I'm going to invest in a better cushioning insole and keep these shoes. The salesman said that the newer version -- the Asics 2120 -- has better forefoot cushioning and support, and should be even better for me.
