First Practice for wrestling is going to be how fast i can run 2 miles.

I just got back from wrestling season where the coach was explaining about the upcoming wrestling year and said that we would start the first practice off with running two miles because he wants to know how much we worked on and practiced for the upcoming season. How should i plan this out since wrestling starts at november 15 and after the first practice we got our first dual meet tournament in 2 weeks

start running the 2 miles each day. even if you have to walk the last bit. Just get your body and mind used to going 2 mile distance.

Actually, 2 miles is 10,560 feet, which is 10,560 feet > nothing.

You still have time. I'd mix it up. Do 1 mile for time two or three times one day, then do a three mile jog the next. Try to fit in some stair work if possible. Every week or so, test your 2 mile time to check your progress. Good for you for starting early.

You guys don't have intermurals? I thought that was the point of having intermural practices, is to get in shape for when the season starts. Right now we have practice 3 days a week and we have to run a mile(which is nothing) everyday before practice.

Conditioning gets a little harder every practice, soon we will start going up to 4 days a week, then 5 during the regular season. I thought every school had these, at least almost every school in my area does.

Anyways if you don't have that, just start running every day. Once every week or so check your 2 mile time. 2 miles is an easy run even if you are in average shape, don't stress about it, just try getting faster and faster running 2 miles every time. Run 3 miles every now and then just to help a little more with cardio. It is nothing to worry about. Running 2 miles doesn't really have anything to do with wrestling skills anyways, it is not like he is evaluating your entire season by this 2 mile run(maybe he is... what kind of coach is that?).

Good luck.

this was a good post. i'd say practice running 2 miles and then more and like he said do other exercises. i remember my freshmen year of wrestling i only did what i thought we would do pre-season and when i went to practice they make the first couple of practices similar to the conditioning before big meets(atleast my coach did) to weed out the weaklings. and as ian said run three as fast as you can just so 2 should be nothing.

and if you can i'd say get a pair of ankle weights to run in and even wear around all the time.

Don't get ankle weights unless you want to add unnecessary stress on your joints and make yourself at higher risk for injury. Running is already pretty high impact. You don't need to make it worse. The rest of the advice in this thread is good though.

Exactly, ankle weights are bad, but the rest of the advice is solid thus far
