Fedor and Alek's Conditioning
Was gonna post this in the MMA forum, but too many kiddies there....
I don't know the exact numbers, but I heard that the Emelianenko brothers run a crazy load of distance everyday.
Yet I see them gassing in the fights especially Aleks.
Do they do any other types of cardio aside from long distance?

i dont know what fight you saw where fedor gassed, or aleks for that matter except at his most recent fight...im thinking that you based this opinion only on aleks' fight on friday

Aleks: Silva, Pawel, and Barnett......In those fights he looked rather tired or gassed towards the end of the fights.
Fedor: His last fight with Nog and Mirko. Schilt and Arona although that quite while ago.

hmm...well to be honest ive never paid too much attention to aleks' fights, but ive always thought of fedors conditioning as being pretty superb. agree to disagree.
anyway about your question, ive seen a video of him using a 75lb sledgehammer for conditioning, and i also read in an interview that he includes pullups and dips in there too. in the video i saw a young kid who was training with them mixing in dips in between rounds of shadowboxing. you can also see kettlebells on the ground but i didnt see any footage of them actually using them.
ill see if i can find the video if you havent seen it

Fedor has never gassed. Everyone is gassed at the end of a fight so that doesn't count. Show me someone who has fought the distance (at a good tempo) and isn't breathing heavy. And Fedor fights at a higher pace than pretty much anyone. The fights you name where tough, and Fedor fought at a very high pace. He was the one standing at the end. Aleks gassing maybe, not Fedor.
Shit even Aleks gassing is questionable. Other than the Silva fight where he was not long out of prison he's only seemed winded after some hard fighting. He's a big guy as well. Josh Barnett holding you in side control would be tough for anyone.

Well I'm just nitpicking with Fedor then.

If a fight goes to a decision and a guy isn't gassed then IMHO I'd say he didn't fight hard enough.
I'll also say being gassed has a lot to do with the amount of punishment that a fighter has taken.
I'm sure those guys do more than run distance, problem is no one ever will divulge their training routines. If they do its just a snap shot in time and doesn't represent in season or off season training, preparation for a fight, etc.....

im sure there is nothing modern or groundbreaking about it anyway...his conditioning most likely comes from rolling and sparring hard
