Excellent Article on Avoiding Overtraining

Excellent Article on Avoiding Overtraining

April 6th, 2009 by Dino Kostakio

Once again MMA and nutrition expert, Billy Hofacker, brings us some insightful information. In this article, Billy addresses a common problem among athletes: overtraining. It is an emotional, behavioral and physical condition that occurs when the volume and intensity of an individual’s exercise exceeds their recovery capacity. They cease making progress, and can even begin to lose strength and fitness. Overtraining is a common problem in weight training, but it can also be experienced by runners and other athletes, such as mixed martial artists. It’s an excellent read and I am sure that it will be very helpful to you, whether you are overtraining or not.

Thanks for posting.

I don't really agree with the authors comment "Exercising on a low carbohydrate diet can compromise your energy during training" as a blanket statement.

I train while restricting my carb intake to mainly vegetable sources with some occasional fruit and other nutrient dense food and I don't feel as though it compromises my energy.

Twice a week I train on an empty stomach in the AM and even then I feel full of energy.

My two cents worth.

Vegetables and fruits ARE carbohydrates. In fact, among the best ones for you.

Your argument isnt even worth two cents.. In fact I think I am dumber for having read it.
First off, he writes CAN compromise your energy.. Notice the word CAN, that means it isn't a blanket statement. ( Although I personally agree with it )
And you also seem to be saying that you feel the same amount of energy on a empty stomach?!?! I don't know if your feedback is so off because you are malnourished or not, but you should leave the nutritional tips to the experts!
I just went on his site and noticed he seems to be very well educated on fitness and mma conditioning. (Training For MMA Fitness) There were other great articles on various subjects for the sport.

My sincerest apologies. I read it as you saying you restrict carbs and INSTEAD eat fruits and vegetables. Thank God because you have restored my faith in humanity.
