This past Sunday I had this weird chest pain where it was actually affecting my breathing and my ability to rotate my neck. I didn't lift or run at all this week and I feel GREAT. A couple of things I noticed.
1) My joints (both shoulders and knees) and muscles feel A LOT BETTER. My biceps look bigger and feel stronger overall.
2) I got a little pudge going from eating a lot of ice-cream for 5 days straight.
I have a few questions for those of you who exercise regularly.
1) Does exercising at a gym make you more prone to getting sick?
2) How do you know when you are not being lazy, but suffering from burnout? When I was young I would force myself to exercise no matter what the circumstance. When I was 17 I exercised so much I got pneumonia. I took 3 weeks off, gained something like 15 lbs., and my benchpress went up by at least 20 lbs.

Seriously man, what you described sounds like a heart attack, seriously. You might want to mention that to a doctor. I also feel better after a rest, but I can't believe you said your biceps look bigger, I'm going to have to call you a curl monkey, you damn curl monkey. Your biceps may look bigger because your carb loading with ice cream may have packed them full of glycogen (stored sugar) and water (which comes with the sugar).
To answer your questions:
First: the subject of sickness and working out is adressed in this thread, by me.
Side effects from Exercise?
Second, A change in resting heart rate (either down or up), higher RPE at the same intensity as previously recorded, mood changes/depression/fatigue are all ways to identify burnout or overtraining, there's tons of stuff on this out there, and overtraining is a serious issue.
