they are a bit harder, but not incredibly so. i made em because i had scrap materials lying around, not because i was trying to make a harder pullup. the different range of motion was a bit of a positive side-effect, not intentionally done when first making it.

there is a creaking noise which i was afraid was the bolts in the wood, but it was just the rope. no fraying has occurred yet. so there is a very slight movement, but not substantial. again i made em with just scraps lying around the house, if i wanted to go out and make something more permanent, I'd invest in better materials or draw up a better design (probably 2 daisy chains with proper brackets to adjust each side manually.

Not to hijack, but I got a quick question. I was thinking about hanging a heavy bag from a similar type set up. After hanging on your new setup, do you think it would work out? The swinging of the heavy bag worries me.
I hung a bag at my friend's house recently with a similar setup. I lag bolted a 2x8 spanning across 3 joists to distribute the load of the 100lb bag more evenly. I then took a eyelet kind of like the ones shown here, but much stronger (cost like $10 instead of the $3 ones and held a lot more weight) and for METAL not wood. I drilled a hole for it and put fat washers on each side of the 2x8. I also used loctite on the threads so it won't come loose very easily. It is a pretty solid setup and doesn't creak or budge at all. He had it mounted on a single joist and it was moving his floor upstairs around when he kicked the bag.

Do you swing around at all when you're doing pull ups?

I wouldn't imagine so but if he was swinging around he could simply adjust the rope to make it shorter.

I just saw this. Thanks. My dad was in building construction management, and he basically said the same thing. However, he ended by saying that he wouldn't hang it there if it was him, but it would probably hold. I think he was just saying there is about a small risk of it not holding, and he wouldn't take that small risk.
