Dislocatted Patella

Hi All,

I study Kajukenpo and about 3 weeks ago I dislocated my kneecap while training. My recovery is coming along fine, I have no ligament damage of any kind and I am working my but off at physio therapy. I know I am going to have to take a number of months off training and that's fine with me. I think that this injury is probably somewhat common in martial artist and just wanted to hear other peoples stories dealing with a similar injury and how that may have affected their training moving forward.

Also I have been looking into knee brace supports thingys and my physio therapist has suggested a couple but he doesn't necessarily know whats best for a martial artist, so I would love any recommendation son that front as well.

Cheers!

I read the requirement for injury threads so if this in some way violates that, please let me know and I can change/reword it.

I had this problem. Unfortunately once your patella gets dislocated it will become more common. I wear knee braces every time I roll/spar/compete. You also want to continually strengthen the muscles around the knee. My muscles became really weak and could not keep my kneecap in place.

I wear a brace with no metal (so I could compete/train). Its open around the kneecap and fits over it.

Thanks for the info, i am really keen on doing whatever it takes to minimize the chances of the this happening again.
