Dealing with Adrenal Dump

Anyone have good advice on training to better manage/cope with adrenal dumps in competition? I've seen very little stuff in this area of training.

Only thing you can do is compete more...if thats your talking about the adrenale dump in competitions or fighting. I remeber my first grappling match i was so gassed from the adrenaline...then you have a few mma fights then do grappling matches and its a walk through the park.

Just have to put yourself in more stressful situation or whatever makes ur adrenaline go crazy. Get in more street fights, compete more, fight mma...you'll still have your adrenaline going and all that nervous energy still but after a couple of fights you should begin to control it and use it to your advantage. Adrenaline makes you faster, more explosive and react quicker...just got to tame that some bitch.

Just got to step outside of of the comfort zone.

My best guess would be to avoid it in the first place as opposed to trying to deal with it afterword

Repeated exposure to competition will help. Keep in mind that you'll probably never be able to eliminate it altogether but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

You know what's happening when it's happening to you so you can work through it like that. It's like dealing with panic attacks, self talk can work.

As someone who used deal with panic/anxiety attacks (and thus adrenal dumps) on a fu(king daily basis at the time, I can tell you that a great way to deal with the adrenal dump is to prevent it. RELAX! Come to terms with the possible outcome (win, loss, injury, embarassment, death, whatever), and focus on relaxing as much as possible.

And do not get in more street fights to help deal with the adrenal dump...that's a good way to get killed before a competition.

To reiterate, when I get into competition, I am not afraid. I get a bit anxious but I love it. I don't lose my head (completely) when I compete. I don't get all nervous and forget my plan or anything like that. I just find I gas quick. Now this could be my cardio but last comp I actually was pretty damn fit. I just didn't perform as well as I'd hoped and I struggled to recover after my bouts.

I am wondering if its simply my body's response to the adrenalin of the fight not just my cardio. If thats the case, is there a way to train to combat it. I plan on competing in 6 months time and want to periodise my training before it. I really don't want to "compete more" as a solution as I'd rather focus on that one comp.

search amazon fro geoff thompson, he's wrote some great stuff on this. best way to get rid of it, or rather use it to your advantage, is to experince it. we do lots of this kind of stuff in my Krav maga class ( although its not Krav maga) mostly by putting one person in the middle and having everyone go at them ( one or two at a time of course) untill the person in the middle is exausted ( by the instructors standards)

Its great fun after the second time, hell before that

for me, what makes competition so nerve-wracking is knowing that i have to compete in front of spectators. i'd be perfectly fine if the tournament was held in a regular gym attended only by other practitioners. so my adrenaline rush comes from before the match. this is going to sound stupid but generally 30 minutes before the match, when i'm having anxiety attacks, i'll just walk around and sit in the audience and listen to the people talking in the stands, and then you realize they're not judging you in any way (except maybe technique-wise but not on a personal level); they just love to watch the sport. that always helps put me at ease knowing that the audience isn't praying for me to lose or waiting for me to slip up or whatnot. realize that you're doing what you love and this is the reason why you've sacrificed so much.
