Cycling or running?

Trying to get back into shape before I take up Muay Thai and have come across a slight problem. I hate running. I fucking hate running. I FUCKING HATE FUCKING RUNNING! So I'm wondering if cycling would work just as well. At least on a bike I feel like I'm accomplishing something. Plus it's probably a better leg workout anyway. Or is it?

I love both, but recently nothing gets in the way of running. Stick at it and you will come to love it, or at least tolerate it, guaranteed (I posted some pointers the other day which might help - link).

But sure, cycling is great, at least for aerobic work. To my experience it's very difficult to get your HR above 160 on a bike - but you can try shouldering the bike and running for some great HIIT work. It's also been mentioned that you should be pedalling at 80-110rpm when biking for maximum efficiency and the sake of your knees.

running is the king of cardio. what do u hate about it? run for a while, watch ur cardio skyrocket and then re-evaluate.

I do both. I prefer cycling but I still run.

Well running is obviously the most functional and convenient of the two.

If you're going to only cycle and not run, you'd better set up some BRUTAL cycling workouts. Lots of long hills, regular sprints, and cycle around the world on a weekly basis.

You guys ever take a spinning class? I took a bunch years ago, and they were pretty major workouts.

My cycling workouts are pretty fucking nasty.

What? I don't understand your post. First you come off as implying that the only way to get into shape by cycling is to do something above and beyond the norm, then you say that a spin class tore you up?

You think a spin class is harder than a workout on the road? I've had sessions on my road bike that utterly destroyed me for days...

You don't need hills either. All you need is your balls and some water...

If you have to have hills in order to push yourself, you're already two steps behind man...

But nothing is better than running in my opinion.

However, running and cycling are always equated in the same light, but it's two completely different sports. Completely different in everything...
