Pros? Increases resistance and makes it harder overall. Cons are that is stresses the joints more and depending on what cardio you do may lead to long term effects. If you ran with a 50 pound vest then your knees and joints would take quite a beating.

Would the same happen to a guy who just weighs a lot. Just wondering. I do not use a weighted vest because I don't really think it is worth the joint problems just to make my workout harder.

It takes time for the joints to get stronger to support the extra weight. You shouldn't have any problems if you ease into it. Just don't go running 5 miles on concrete the first day. If you run use a rubber track. Or climb hills or stairs which will reduce the impact on the knees.

The military makes people run with packs on. I dont know if that answers your question but I doubt it puts that much stress on you knees. Just dont go crazy. Try 10-15 pounds or something and work your self up. But in the end I doubt you really need one.
