Hello this is my first post i am starting bjj next month and i am already doing kickboxing.I was just wondering as ive put a lot of weight on from just sitting at home and not really doing much should i be lifting aswell as cardio?ive been jogging 3 miles a day but i do not want to put lots of muscles on as i think it will slow me down...(not to sure about that)so should i start lifting 10-12 reps or heavy and do i need to take protein as in my job i do not have a lot of time for gym so i have a bench press pull up bar and speed/heavy bag cheers in advanced

Dont worry about protein if you eat healthy e.g chicken breast, brown rice, steamed veggies, that sort of thing.

3 miles a day is a decent cardio gig in my opinion, but make sure its not a lazy 3 miles. My roommate was a military guy and he always told me, your taking the time to do it, do it right. So when your out there running really build up a sweat and work your lungs.

Muscles will really only slow you down if you doing body building training. If your muscles come from fight related training and conditioning theyll be fast enough for you. I never thought conditioning training could pack on muscle but my arms are more ripped by far from bag work than countless months with dumbells.

Hope I helped a little

Oh man... You're a perfect SD rape victim.

I mean this in the nicest way possible: There are 3 FAQ stickies at the top of the 3 main sections (Dieting & Supplements, Strength & Power and Conditioning). They are all labeled "FAQ" so their easy to find, as they are also at the top of each section.

Being that you are a beginner, improvement will be quick and easy, for now at least. You need to educate yourself by reading those FAQs. They answer everything you just asked and a lot more. Personally, I think the conditioning FAQ is weak, but check out the sites listed at the bottom. There is great info in there.

Building muscle does not make you slow or less flexible. Not at all.

Anyways, that's all I'm really going to say. People here are not going to do the work for you. When you show that you've helped yourself and are truly making the effort to better yourself; no one here will have an issue with answering your questions. This was not a good start, but being a new member, you don't really know better.

Putting on some muscle definitely shouldn't slow you down just find a good balance of lifting and conditioning to suit your needs.
