If your planning on becoming an instructor then get certified, but if your just training then I don't think it's necessary.

^^^Agreed. Though I think I am going to go to a CF seminar/certification in October. I am a personal trainer and I like expanding my knowledge. We have a lot of clients come into my gym requesting to do "CrossFit workouts".

For me personally, it will pay for itself.

I've been using the Crossfit classification system as a goal recently and I have found the overhead squat standard to be quite challenging. Advanced is BW for one rep and Elite is BW for 15 reps. I'm not even close and when I tried last friday I could bearly hold myself up in my car seat b/c my core was so tired.

WTF bw for 15 reps?! Bit pointless and totally arbitrary but definitely sounds badass...

Yeah there is no way I'm risking my long term shoulder health holding 235lbs but I do like being reminded how good overhead squats are.

That's a good way to describe a lot of Crossfit stuff. Pretty badass but also pretty random.
