I'm not certified, and no I don't think it's worth it. It's better just to be a good personal trainer and understand both the merits and pitfalls of crossfit as a catch all training protocol. Crossfit is one tool in the box... but it's the one you bought off an infomercial at 3 in the morning while suffering from bouts of insomnia that claims its the only one you'll ever need for anything ever.
It's good for some things, but I certainly wouldn't contribute monetarily to the crossfit empire.

I am certified. If you have any specific questions, let me know. I am not a fighter, just a fight fan. And at nearly 35, I am probably faster and stronger than I have ever been. I wish I would have found something like CrossFit when I was younger. It's not the answer for everybody, but it is a great start.

My understanding is xfit is just a different exercise each day that you get off the website and you do it for time. But some movements need some technique and coaching so if you can't do them you have to substitute them with easier ones or pay up. It's probably fun. Seems like a good way to get fit.

Most people here hate crossfit as you can probably already tell.
From what I understand the cert has been watered down as most of the original instructors do not teach the classes. The cert is suppose to explain the crossfit "way of life" and help you to be able to teach your clients form, progressions, and adaptions to the exercises required of the WOD.
Like mentioned above, crossfit is one tool in the toolbox.
I do not believe that it is fair to knock them for making money off of something that helps many people. Even Sherdog has advertisements all over the page and has a store, and I see nothing wrong with that.
I am a personal trainer and even though a lot of people on this forum probably have
a lot more knowledge than I, I change peoples lives by teaching them what I know.
Everyone has to make a living somehow, crossfit does help a lot of people reach their fitness goals who may never work out otherwise.
Most of us here just happen to be motivated enough to do it on our own.

I do follow WOD, just to challenge myself, i really don't think you need worth getting certified, to me i think it would be a waste of money my opinion tho.

Do you need a cert to CrossFit? No. Simply follow the daily WODs if it seems like your cup of tea. I would recommend at least getting a little coaching on the olympic lifts, though, just to be safe. They are really easy to do wrong.

Of course not. To coach clients using the name, yes.

I agree 100%. Learning to lift correctly is crucial for safety and optimal gains. Make sure you find a qualified coach though.
