Cross country running.

I had trouble getting back into running at first as my stamina has been slowly deteriorating for the last five years due to distractions outside my gym and life in general really. The other problem that really bothered me is that I felt my legs were tighening up somewhat and even after I had stretched my legs were less supple.

It wasn't that I was really over doing the running as I was only doing 15 minutes for my warm up. I think I was just under doing my stretches, and again I think this is because I haven't been doing intensive training as regular. I am still doing 15 minutes for my warm up but now more regularly, and also focussing more time and effort on my stretching.

It's all good now because I am doing my own thing more and my training is becoming more enjoyable. After I have stretched I do 30-40 minutes intense bag work and a bit of technical stuff aswell, followed by free weights for power and endurance and then pull ups, dips, and then leg machine weights, followed by sit ups, back raises, and then press ups.

The running isn't tightening me up anymore as I have become more relaxed, and also spending more time stretching. Has anyone else suffered badly with leg tightening due to cross country running?

I find that cross-country running (as in woodland/forest/fields) is actually good for my joints and muscle aches. Not only is it often much easier on your joints, but I am convinced of its effectiveness as my knee that has been bugging me lately seems to be improving after runs.

Read up on some stretching. There are a million opinions about ballistic, dynamic and static stretching. I've read that static stretching can really hinder explosiveness, but don't quote me on that, because there are a hundred studies to contradict one another. Just make some small adjustments and see how it affects your stiffness.

I did a charity cross country a few months ago and that was seven miles.

Back in high school, I wasn't even on the cross country team, and we ran at least 4 miles a day for wrestling pre-season.
