50 is probably a bit late to start running due to the stress on the joints (although at that age you are prone to osteoparosis, women especially, and some occasional hard work on the bones will help avoid it). I'd say get a stationary bike and tell her tp put in 20 minutes or so before breakfast, three or four days a week.

There are shitloads of diet & exercise programs out there that would be suitable. Check out the Body For Life program, for example.

make goals and stick to them.

These are just guesses but you can adapt.

Month one

Diet: Eliminate Soda

Excercise: 10 mins walking on a treadmill

Habits: If you have a Dog ..walk it daily, if you have a husband walk him daily.

Each month I would simply add a new goal into each of the three cateragories. She's 50 she shouldn't expect magic overnight.

yeah, if she hasn't been running all these years, starting now would be hell on her joints. She might want to start with some low impact cardio and work her way up to running.

It's all about diet. do a google search on the GI Diet. I've been on this diet for 2 months and have lost 29lbs, 6% body fat, and 2 inches from my waist. Its a safe and easy diet IMO.

You can work out all you want, but if you exercise and lose 300 calories per session you can easily gain it back with the wrong types of food.

20 - 30 minutes of brisk walking a day should be good too

My suggestion is Pialettes and a diet. My wife has suggestions for females in this area on my forum. Feel free to stop by.
