Toe Problems

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I need some advice before I spend cash at the doctor. No insurance at the moment. Anyway, I have been training semi-hard for the past 7 months and for the past 2 months my big toe, and the toe next to the pinky toe on both feet have been killing me. The pain is very bad when the toe is bent sideways/abduction, aduction. The pain feels like a jammed finger but just will not seize. I took 2 solid weeks off and did nothing but rest. NO exercise at all. RICE applied twice a day. First day back at it, and same thing. It is getting worse and is now starting to hurt when not training. Any ideas? Anyone have this problem? How to fix it? Thanks for the help. Also, most of the time they feel normal, no pain, but as soon as you bend them sideways it feels like a break. Takes the breath away type pain.. It is very odd and I cant find anything about it anywhere on the net.

Well if it is broken there isn't much you can do other than stay off of it. It won't heal unless you keep the pressure off. If it's a sprain or some sort of ligament strain you should be putting it in ice everyday. And again...stay off of it.

I've found that turf toe takes years and years to heal. Mine actually got better when I ignored the pain and just kept taping it. Eventually the pain subsided into minor discomfort.

Do you think this could be turf toe? I am 27 now, but played high school football and 2 years in college, and never had turf toe problems. I also played several games on turf where it is suppose to occur more often. This just started when I began taking a MMA class and working on the thicker mat. I know this is what has caused it, but I just cant seem to figure out why it will not go away/why its only big toe and the one next to the little toe/and why it only hurts when bent in the right direction. I guess I will just have to deal with it until I can no longer continue...?? Thanks again for the comments.

Hmm...ya know....I had something that sounds similar. I was playing beach volleyball...and somehow my toe got caught in the sand in a wierd way (I"m sure I was making an impressive dig at the time) but....I really thought it was broken. Too quite a few months to get better.....but eventually did. Not sure what you can do to speed the recovery. If it is a broken toe...they can't really do much anyway. I would tape it...good luck.

Girljock seems to have just jammed it because it got better, but I think you and I have the same problem. However I have this problem in 4 of the 10 toes! I really did not want to go to the doc and pay 300+ to hear "well, it not broken, it will just take time to heal-ice it." It does seem to not be as bad this past week, maybe it is getting a little better, but again, I have not been doing much ground work this week either. I assume you did not have a doctor check it out yet?
