Conditioning against a glass jaw

Hi,

Recently when I've been boxing, people have been able to get knock outs more quickly than I am used to. One of my worries is that I could in fact have a glass jaw

Are there any tips any of you can give me on conditioning against a glass jaw? I heard strengthening the neck stops fast movements of the head and also absorbs some of the impact force. How effective is this against KO's?

Any good exercises or links? I've been doing neck wrestling and backwards crabs rolling my head back and forth.

Thanks

You do keep your chin tucked, right?

Stop getting hit on the chin and you won't have much of a problem.

I have seen a few jaw conditioning exercises. One is to have somebody apply pressure to the back of your head (or hold a weight there) while you're lying face down, you then place your chin on the floor and work your head up and down against the resistance. Another one I've seen Muay Thai guys doing is suspending weights from a rope, gripping the rope between their teeth and repping up and down - probably not too good for the molars though. Neck exercises such as bridges will also help buid some support structure.

But in terms of surviving a punch, none of these exercises compare to the advice of the above two posters, of course.

Ive been told that chewing LOTS of gum is a way to strengthen your jaw muscles - i doubt that it could make a huge difference though.

I'd suggest wrestling exercises like neck bridges? Notice most wrestlers in UFC are hard to KO.

This is easy I like to put a potato in a sock and swing it back and forth hitting myself in the jaw with it, try it I've never been knocked out.

First, move when the punch is heading to your mug, next keep your lead shoulder and hands up, finally make sure you've been working your neck properly. A strong neck helps keep your head from whipping back and absorbs a lot of the incoming force. More force in your neck, the less your brain bounces around inside your skull.

How good is your mouthguard?? Are you properly biting down on it or is your mouth open? That could also be a problem...
