for cardio training, what should my heartrate be at on treadmill?

im 25, after running only 1 mile at a 10 min/mile pace, my heartrate is at 200. is that too high?? after that 10 min. im out of gas and can only force myself to keep going for another 2min. or so until i have to rest/walk. what should my heartrate be set at?? my goal is to do 3 miles, in less than 30 min. i lift weights, but cardio never was my thing

Yeah, that's pretty damn high. I'm 19 and my target heart rate is something like 165.......yours shouldn't be much higher or lower. I believe it's 220-age = max heart rate you should get up to safely.-

It's probably not 200, or if it is, you should start thinking about what you want on your tombstone.

At a decent clip on the treadmill and provided you're in moderate shape, you're probably still in the aerobic zone - 150-170 bpm. Even doing maximum effort uphill sprints, I doubt you'd get near 200 for more than a few seconds.

for me to hit 150-170 bpm i would have to go at a really slow jogging pace. so i should run even slower than 10min/mile pace?? usually when i do bike my heart rate it hovers around 165, when i do elliptical, its around 170-180. i don't know what my heart rate hovers when i jog, but right after 10 min, its around 200 i kid u not

get get your heart rate you need to get test on it. 220-your age ins't right. Think if that was right why would a 70 old man be running in a ironman.Think 220-70=150 the to low. Get tested for your heart rate range.

220 - your age isn't a great way to calculate your max heart rate. if you have a heart rate monitor or if the treadmill you are using has one, run as fast as you can for as long as you can to see what your actual Max heart rate is at. regardless of your age, everyone has a certain fitness level.

your max heart rate * 0.80 should be your target heart for cardio training (approximately).
