cardio for sparring

Hi guys Ive been in a boxing class for a while now. I thought i was in pretty good shape I was always able to finish the workouts, although fatigued by the end, and I usually run everyday and work out everyday except weekend. But when we first started sparring last week I was gasping for breath by the first minute. It was a total surprise and shocked me how quickly i got tired. Those 3 minute rounds felt like 10 minutes. In the beginning my problem was I using too much energy when the round started and would gas out quickly. Im a little bit better, I could go like 3 rounds of sparring and do ok but I would like to work on my cardio more just so I could be faster and push my pace without worrying about gassing out.

For cardio everyday I run and shadow box with weights on. I also work on endurance by doing workouts for 1 hour with no rest in between exercises.

Any other ideas for increasing cardio performance for sparring.

Plus 1.
You`ll also learn how to relax and pace yourself. Eventually you`ll have no problem.

I think the best way would just be more sparring. If you don't have a partner, try the Bas Rutten CD's on a heavy bag.

What they said. The biggest part of sparring isn't being in better condition, but rather learning to conserve energy and pace yourself.

the reason your gassing out quickly is because your tense which makes you use more energy so your probaly fitter than you think so just spar and activly focus on being "loose"l.

If you want better cardio sparring then spar, if you want to do more pushups do more pushups, if you want to run farther run farther. Same principles

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe a GSP is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

Relax and breathe. Your body is probably too tight and your muscles are tense which can kill your cardio. Also during bag rounds, go all out. Throw a lot of punches and hit the bag hard. Sprinting will also help.
